VCIL Travel School 2023 in South Korea:
From Miracle Development to Sustainable Alternatives
The interesting thing about Korea is that this country always has many contrasting directions and faces. For example, to counteract the above issues, there are a lot of movements, organizations and projects that come from the grassroots and lay people which are successful in many fields. These are the movements of religious reform, the development of cooperative and solidarity economy, alternative education, the village revitalization movement, etc. The special thing is that these movements all come from the people who unite and effectively use resources from the community and society. Therefore, the experiences from these movements and organizations are valuable lessons for community organizations and other social initiatives, not only in Korea but also in other countries in the region.
“VCIL Travel School 2023 - Korea: From miracle development to sustainable alternatives” was born to explore South Korea in various aspects. The program will provide an in-depth understanding of Korea's socioeconomic landscape and approach to sustainable alternatives for the future. The program focuses on creating context for participants to connect with Korean people and culture as well as get in touch with organizations that are pioneering in building a more sustainable and happier society.

It is now a hub for greenwork, afforestation and environmental improvement; increasingly utilizing of renewable energy; people who concern for alternative healing (homeopathy, ayurveda, acupuncture, Reiki, etc.); and diverse tradition-breaking ways of environmentally sensitive architecture among many other great achievements. And most importantly a spiritual laboratory, where Nature is experimenting with all types of people and types, to push and evolve frontiers of consciousness.

VCIL Travel School 2022 in Ladakh:
Mindful Travel & Sustainable Living
As the Ladakhis' economy relies heavily on mass tourism, the self-sufficient lifestyle characterized by sustainable rock building techniques has faded away. Tons of hotels and guest houses made of concrete and steel rapidly appeared everywhere. Rarely are tourists spending enough time and experience to connect with local people and places so that they can understand the consequence of mass tourism, climate change, unsustainable development as well as effort from local and international friends in re-constructing and regenerating this brilliant land.
Throughout 15 days of the program, participants will travel slowly, to connect with Ladakhi people, to eat, sleep, and work side by side with locals. Then participating in educational workshops, studying Ladakhis way of life and practicing telling stories with your own voices and perspective.
